As you get your clear aligner routine down, it may become second nature to take care of them. You likely have a setup that works for you, and it’s easy to follow a process that lets you fully clean out your smile after eating. However, if you have a trip coming up, you may find it difficult to bring your entire getup. To help ensure you stay on track with your orthodontic treatment, here are some tips to make travel a bit easier.
1.) Create a Kit of Essentials
If you have had a few trips before you started on clear aligners, you may have made a toiletries bag that had your toothbrush and toothpaste. You should pack something similar but with a few extra items. All the standard essentials are good to bring, such as the two products mentioned before, with some mouthwash and floss. However, you may want to pack two kits, one to keep in your temporary home and the other to carry around while you are exploring.
2.) Stay with Your Routine
While you aren’t in your normal environment, it can be easier to relax and fully destress. However, this can also make it more likely for you not to wear your clear aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. Keep timers when you eat and track how long they are out to ensure you don’t cause any delays in your treatment.
3.) Bring Extra Aligners and Cases
Travelling for weeks or months can be exciting, letting you truly explore the scenery wherever you are. That being said, you should plan accordingly and bring extra sets of aligners. It will help keep your smile-straightening journey going steadily. It doesn’t hurt to pack an extra case, just if you accidentally lose one, then you have a backup.
4.) Have Bottled Water with You
Whether you are travelling by plane or car, having some bottles of water can be helpful. Lavatory sink water can gross some people out, or gas station restrooms may not be completely clean. Keeping several bottles with you can help you feel more comfortable when it comes to brushing or rinsing your mouth!
Getting ready for your upcoming trip can be exciting, and thankfully, you can still enjoy it while you have clear aligners. Keep these tips in mind to help you keep on track with your orthodontic treatment.
