What is the difference between a general dentist and an orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a type of dental specialist. Both general dentists and orthodontists have to graduate from dental school, but then the orthodontist has to undergo years of additional training that gives them the skills to straighten the teeth and align the bite. As such, an orthodontist is able to offer a higher level of care and more treatment options for patients wanting to fix crooked, crowded, and gapped teeth.

Why shouldn’t I get braces/clear aligners from a general dentist?

Many general dentists these days are offering to provide braces and clear aligners. While some are very skilled, they lack the degree of training and experience that an orthodontist like Dr. Witt has. While a dentist might have only treated a handful of orthodontic patients in their career, Dr. Witt has literally helped thousands, and this difference can mean a lot when it comes to the quality of a patient’s final result.

Can my child get clear aligners?

Typically, we only recommend clear aligners for teens and adults. Why? Because with clear aligners, the patient can actually take the trays out whenever they like, which can quickly lead to trouble for younger patients. With children, the possibility of them losing, damaging, or just not wearing their trays is quite high, which is why fixed braces are typically a more effective (and less stressful) option.

Am I too old to straighten my teeth?

Fortunately, there is no upper age limit for orthodontics! You can have your teeth aligned at any age when you’re treated by a trained orthodontist like Dr. Witt. In the past, he has helped people in their 50s, 60s, and beyond finally achieve the smiles they’ve wanted their entire lives.

Do you take my dental insurance?

Witt Orthodontics, PC is able to accept any dental insurance plan that has coverage for orthodontic care, so the answer is likely yes! To get a better idea of how much you can save, be sure to give our team a call with your policy information nearby.

Can I finance my orthodontic treatment?

Yes, we offer 0% in-house financing for patients who would like to space out the cost of their treatments. You can learn more about this option and various discount options when you come in for your initial consultation. We’re always willing to work with people to ensure their care is easily affordable!
