Here in Holden, we know there are plenty of choices when it comes to selecting the right orthodontist for you or your child. At Witt Orthodontics, we have earned a reputation for providing lasting solutions to a variety of dental problems. Dr. Davis Witt has been proudly transforming smiles for over 25 years, and is even a professor at UCONN, teaching future generations of orthodontists how to provide gorgeous smiles to patients of all ages.
While there are many dental practices that provide orthodontic treatment with clear aligners and even braces, a trained orthodontist is your best bet for getting a beautiful, straight smile. A Google search for “orthodontist near me” can help get you started on your search. Be sure to read the doctor’s reviews, learn about their background, and see if they have before-and-after images to view on their website.
To become an orthodontist, your doctor must first complete dental school. Here in the United States, all dentists must earn either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) from one of the nation’s 67 accredited dental schools.
Acceptance into dental school requires the student to have earned a bachelor's degree (and typically very high grades) in a major that is heavy in both math and science. Dental school is an additional three years, combining classroom and hands-on learning.
Following dental school, some dentists choose to continue their education by earning one of 12 specializations, including orthodontists. Orthodontists take an additional two to three years of training, not including their residency following dental school.
All dentists (including orthodontists) are then required to complete a certain number of continuing education hours to maintain their license.
Although this is not always possible, the best way to make a same-day appointment is to call your orthodontist’s practice directly. This is not only the most direct way to reach a live person, but it also can help your orthodontic team better understand your situation and get you the best care as soon as possible.
The goal of most same-day appointments is to assess any urgent situations, eliminate any pain, and finalize a treatment plan as needed. In some cases, this may be able to be completed on the same day.
